Rolwaling Valley to Khumbu via Tashi Laptsa-La Pass Trek is one of the most exciting adventures around Nepal Himalayas. It is also a demanding and challenging thrills to achieve adventure and experience of a lifetime.

Rolwaling Valley to Khumbu via Tashi Laptsa-La Pass Trek takes you around the western hidden corners of Khumbu and Everest. The adventure leads to the high alpine pass of above 5,755 meters on top of Tashi Laptsa-La.

It is the boundary between the high valleys of Rolwaling, Dolkha and Khumbu districts. An exciting adventure to enjoy and explore around the less frequented
areas of Mid-East Himalayas. Trekkers will be overwhelmed after traversing
Tashi-Laptsa-La Pass from Khumbu areas to the picturesque valley of Rolwaling.

Both sides of Khumbu and Rolwaling are the home to highlanders of Himalayas, the Sherpa native. The trek starts on landing at Tenzing and Hillary Airport at the famous and busy town of Lukla. The first part of the journey leads you to the mainstream trekking routes to famed Namche Bazaar.

Namche Bazaar, the major hub of Khumbu Sherpa, trekkers and mountaineers, where once a week. A busy and colorful market takes place on Saturday, hence the name Namche Bazaar. Located on perfect elevation above 3,440 meters, makes an ideal place for acclimatization, before heading towards higher altitude.

Adventure continues leaving the main trails and Namche Bazaar towards the west end of Khumbu and Everest areas at Thame. A quaint and sleepy farm village seldom visited by the main flow of trekkers. Thame is a scenic valley within the shadow of Kongde Himal and falls en route to Nepal and Tibet borders.

It is also leads to Gokyo Valley via Renjo-La Pass, as well as to high Tashi-
Laptsa pass. Thame is the last village of Khumbu before our route enters the Rolwaling Valley at Na and Bedding Villages.

From Thame village onwards towards a challenging route, trekkers should be in best physical fitness and with sound health. The walk follows the faint path of yak herders away from human settlement for some days. Reaching at the foot of Tashi-Laptsa-La, the next early morning a steep climb reaches on top Tashi
Laptsa-La pass. For the hard effort rewards you with a sweeping Panorama of Central and Eastern Himalayan giant peaks. Standing close beneath Pachermo, Ramdung Gho peaks with majestic Mt. Gaurishankar and Melungtse.

Completing the challenging climb to Tashi-Laptsa, descend towards Tsho Rolpa glacial lake and Drolambu Glacier. A pleasant walk brings you around the picturesque Rolwaling Valley at Na and Bedding Villages.

A lovely surroundings, and traditional Sherpa settlements untouched by civilization and the outside world. Slowly the adventure leads towards mid-hills covered in dense forest of rhododendrons and pine trees. Then the walk ends on reaching the low farm land at Gongar for an exciting drive to Kathmandu.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to a hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal Intenational Airport, after visa formalities, and claiming the baggage. Outside the exit terminal our staff and guide receives you for a short transfer to the hotel. After getting refreshed at the hotel, then join with other members of Rolwaling Valley from Khumbu and Tashi Laptsa trek,nfor a briefing.

Briefing is done by our guide, group leader with full information of the treks, including hotels in Kathmandu. Local cultures with do’s and don’ts.
In the evening a lovely dinner and introduction to Nepali foods and culture.

Day 2: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest

Moning after breakfast, our city guide takes you on a tour around thenworld heritage sites within Kathmandu city. After an exciting and interesting tour back to the hotel, preparation and packing for trekking.

Non-essential clothing and items not required for treks, can be stored in the Hotel or with Kirat Society Adventure.

Day 3: Fly to Lukla 2, 846 m and trek to Phakding 2,645 m - 04 hrs
Starting early in the moning for a super scenic flight to Lukla, a short drive to Kathmandu domestic airport. After going through security, board on a small spacious aircraft for a 30 minutes exciting flight. During the flight, enjoy a spectacular panorama of the Himalayan range of peaks with views of Mt. Everest. Slowly the plane lands at Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport. After collecting the baggage and having time for a short refreshment. Start the trek following our expert guide through Lukla town and then down to Dudh Koshi River. Walking past lovely Sherpa villages, where the path is lined with Buddhist monuments and prayer walls. Facing grand views of Kongde and Kusum Khanguru peaks. Slowly the pleasant walks reach Phakding for ovenight halt. Located by the raging glacial Dudh Koshi River, check into a nice lodge with time to explore around.
Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m / 11, 350 feet - 06 hrs

Today’s walk takes you to the famous Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa Capital of Khumbu and Everest region. Moning walk follows a nice pleasant trail with ups and down to cross a long suspension bridge. Then a short steep climb to Monjo village with views of Thermasarkhu peaks. From Monjo the trail leadsnSagarmatha National Park entrance. (Sagarmatha a Nepali name for Everest, for the Sherpa it is called Chomolungma of Tibetan origin). From here over a bridge above the same river to Jorsalle. This is the last settlement before Namche Bazaar, possible lunch stops, aftenoon walk on the river bed. The walk leads through a lovely cool forest of pines, fir and rhododendron trees. From here our route leads to cross a high bridge to follow an undulating winding up to Namche Bazaar.

Namche Bazaar is a fascinating small town with fancy restaurants, luxury hotels and resorts, as well many shops and stores. Facilities of banks and ATM for trekkers, an exciting place to be with close views of Kongde peaks.

Day 5: At Namche for acclimatization and a short scenic hike
A leisure and free day, for short hikes higher up to support acclimatization before heading towards Rolwaling Valley.nnPlaces of interest around Namche Bazaar for short hikes:nThe best and short hike above Namche Bazaar, a climb to the Park Museum. An interesting place situated on a high ridge facing the grand vista of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse with majestic Ama Dablam. Includes views of Kangtiga, Thermasarkhu and Kwangde range of peaks with Khumbila, the patron god of Khumbu Sherpa. An enjoyable tour of the museum provides full information of the Khumbu and Sherpa’s cultures. The next good hike for a few hours climbs to Syangboche ridge with a small old airstrip. From here continue to walk up to Everest View Hotel, located on a high green hill covered in beautiful forest. The first luxury deluxe hotels of Khumbu area, established in 1971. Listed on the Guinness Book of World Record in 2004 as the highest hotels. At 3,962 m / 13,000 feet, enjoy the serene surroundings with views of Mt. Everest. Optional Hike to Khumjung and Khunde villages, located down from Everest View Hotel on a wide glacial valley. Beneath Mt. Khumbila, Khumjung with 500 years old Gompa / monastery treasures a scalp believed to be of a Yeti. Continue the walk to Khunde, the first and only hospital of Khumbu built by the late Sir Edmund Hillary. From here follow a pleasant trail and steep downhill back to Namche Bazaar.
Day 6: Trek to Thame 3,820 m - 05 hrs

After a pleasant time at Namche Bazaar with rest days. Today’s trek leads west towards a quiet and sleepy village of Thame. Following a least trekked trail through lovely woods of pines and rhododendrons trees to Thamo Village.
Thamo the home of Ang Rita Sherpa knowns as the Snow Leopard,nThe first local climber to summit Mt. Everest Ten times without oxygen.
Possible lunch stop, from here on a winding trail and down to Bhote Koshi River which later joins the Dudh Koshi. Crossing a small bridge, then a short climb to Thame Village located on a windswept valley.

At Thame ovenight in a simple lodge, as well as the last human settlement before reaching Rolwaling Valley. Aftenoon at leisure visit the old Thame Monastery tucked above the village. The oldest Monastery of Khumbu, believed to be more than 500 years old.

Day 7: Trek to Tengpo 4,900 m -6 hrs

On leaving Thame the last village of Khumbu, from here adventure leads to complete mountain wildeness. In the backdrop of towering rocky and snow-capped peaks with Kongde Himal range towards south.

The walk follows around a wide meadow and summer pasture of Yaks, coming across few Yak herder’s temporary shelters. As the walk ends for the day on reaching a small Yak herders summer settlements at Tengpo.

From here onwards ovenights in a tented camp, food is served by our camping cook, and kitchen staff.

Day 8: Trek to the base of Tashi-Laptsa-La Pass Approx. 5,230 m-04 hrs

Adventure continues at the end of Khumbu westen rim beneath the high Tashi-Laptsa-La Pass. The walk can be tiring due to the rise in altitude at every step with gradual uphill towards our ovenight camp. Located at the easten base of Tashi-Laptsa Pass, amidst boulders of rocks and small icy streams.

Finding the right level ground for the ovenight camp in tents, the rest of the aftenoon at leisure. Checking the right gear for an early climb up to Tashi Laptsa-La Pass. Relax, and save the energy for an early moning steep haul for the big day and main highlight of the adventure. Our guide and staff will check the route of the climb, and fix ropes where necessary.

Day 9: Climb to Tashi Laptsa-La and descent towards west of Tashi Laptsa Base 5,400 m -07 hrs

Rising early and carrying a packed lunch for the longest and tough day ofnnthe adventures. Following the lead guide with a steep haul over rocks and icy paths. In deep snow conditions, main ropes are essential for safety and precautionary measures. As the climb progresses reaching higher then finally on top of Tashi-Laptsa La. The pass is adoned with stone cains and Buddhist prayer flags, as you stand beneath towering Pachermo Peak. Enjoy the dramatic views as the pass is encircled by arrays of peaks. Includes a grand view of Mt. Gaurishankar, Melungtse and Ghychung Kang towards the Central North with some peaks of Tibet.nn nnAfter a good refreshing stop, all trekkers, staff and porters will be in support of main fixed ropes. For the steep descent towards westen base of Tashi Laptsa around Drolambu Glacier. Our camp is set by the advance group of staff after achieving a successful goal and highlight of the adventure.

Day 10: Trek to Kabuk near Tsho Rolpo 4,560 m-05 hrs

From the camp around absolute mountain wildeness, moning walk leads slowly over moraine of rocks and ice. Then reach a beautiful spot at Kabuk close to Tsho Rolpo, the glacial lake. Aftenoon relax and marvel at the exciting scenery of dramatic landscapes with snow-capped peaks. Explore around the glacial lake pfnTsho Rolpo is enclosed within giant mountains.

Day 11: Trek to Na Gaon 4,183 m-05 hrs

A lovely walk from here onwards heading downhill at the end of wide and beautiful Rolwaling Valley. The trail follows a wooden bridge to enter Rolwaling Valley enclosed by a series of snow peaks. Facing views of majesticnMt. Gaurishankar, Melungtse, with Ramdung Gho and Yalung peaks.

The pleasant walk ends on reaching a nice settlement at Na Gaon for ovenight camping or in a simple lodge.

Day 12: Trek to Beding Village 3,693 m-04 hrs

After a pleasant stop at Na Gaon, from Na a short walk down to a large village of Beding. As you enter the Dolakha district around Rolwaling Valley, the walk continues in the shadow of giant peaks. Finally, the moning ends reaching a traditional old farm village at Beding situated above a stream.

Ovenight either in a simple lodge or spend the night in tents close to the village. Having time to explore the village and the impressive culture of the Rolwaling Sherpa community. Visit the old monastery standing atop the village facing excellent views of the surrounding snow mountain range.

Day 13: Trek to Dovan 2,500 m -05 hrs
From Beding a leisurely hike on leaving the westen end of Rolwaling Valley at Beding Village. The walk heads on gradual winding path downhill through severalnYak herders temporary settlements. After hours of walking back into tree lines at Dovan by the confluence and tributary streams of Tama Koshi River. A nice spot by the stream for ovenight camping amidst serene woods.
Day 14: Trek to Simi-Gaon 2,030 m-05 hrs

A pleasant walk to Simi-Gaon, the last village of Sherpa tribe’s.
The route leads to gradual climb for an hour through a lovely dense and cool forest of pines and rhododendrons. On reaching the top of a hill, a slow descent brings you to Simi-Gaon for an ovenight halt. A nice small farm village inhabited by the highland Sherpa, with a small monastery close to the village.

Day 15: Trek to Gongar 1,410 m-05 hrs

Enjoy the last day of trekking to Gongar, a small farm village, situated abovenTama Koshi River. The walk follows a long downhill through scattered farm villages and terraces. Reaching down to cross a bridge close to cascading waterfalls, and then to Gongar. The last ovenight in tents and camping foods to enjoy at Gongar.

Day 16: Drive to Kathmandu via Charikot-06 hrs

After a pleasant ovenight and last camping adventure, enjoying a good breakfast. Get on board a vehicle as per the size of group members.
An exciting drive leads by the Tama Koshi River then uphill to Dolakha town and Charikot. Enjoy the views of the Central Himalayan range with Langtang, Jugal Himal and Mt. Gaurishankar. From Charikot on a good winding road to Mure village, and then downhill to Lamashangu village. Drive leads across the bridge above Bhote Koshi River, then on the highway that joins Nepal and Tibet, China.

The drive heads down to Dolalghat and uphill to Dhulikhel, the scenic old town.
From Dhulikhel a few hours of good drive brings you to the hustle and bustle city in Kathmandu. On arrival in good times by late aftenoon, check into your lovely rooms at respective hotels.

Day 17: Free day as contingency and for individual activities

We have reserved a day free as a contingency in case of bad weather that might delay crossing over Tashi Laptsa Pass. As Himalayan weather can be unpredictable with bad weather sometimes even in the best seasons.
Enjoy the free day for shopping or join in for a tour to Patan or Bhaktapur cities, worth a visit.

Day 18: International departure for homeward bound

Final day in Kathmandu and Nepal, as time for your intenational flight for homeward bound or next port of call. Transfer to Kathmandu, Nepal intenational airport bidding farewell to the guide and staff. After a marvelous and enjoyable adventure on Rolwaling Valley from Khumbu via Tashi Laptsa-La Pass trek

Essential Information

Please be informed that the flight to Lukla or back to Kathmandu, might get diverted to Manthali Airport in the Ramechhap district. Which is about a 4-5 hours’ drive, in case of flight diversion to Ramechap.

We might have to transfer the clients on Day 02, after the sightseeing tour in the afternoon time. For an exciting and scenic drive to Manthali town airport and stay in the best available hotels. The next morning to catch a flight to Lukla takes about 20 or 25 minutes to Lukla and vice-versa. The diversion is due to heavy air traffic at Kathmandu airport that coincides with other domestic and international flights.

If the flight to Lukla is diverted to Ramechap from Kathmandu, as per the notice of Nepal Civil Aviation. The company will inform all our clients well in advance regarding the changes. Sometimes, due to bad unfavorable weather conditions either from Kathmandu, Ramechap, or Lukla. The flight can get delayed or lead to cancellation, in this situation please bear with us and understand.

For the sudden inconvenience, in this situation, our guide and the head office will try our best for a good solution. Whether to charter a Helicopter or wait for a few days till the weather clears for a normal flight.
