Overview

Mera Peak Trek and Climbing Adventures, takes you around the hidden valley of Hinku. Located south of Mt. Everest amidst arrays of soaring snow-mountains ranges at the end of Sagarmatha National Park.

A perfect and ideal snow-capped peak, for beginners in mountaineering as well for the expert climbers.

Mera Peak summit stands at the height of 6,470 m/21,227.03 feet high.
It is one of the highest trekking peaks of Nepal, after Chulu East Peak
6,584 meters or 21,601 feet. The trek to Mera Peak leads you on-off-the-beaten trails, away from the main popular Everest Base Camp trekking routes.

Flying to Tenzing & Hillary Airport at Lukla, a busy town where most treks and adventures start and end. The trek follows above the Lukla Town heading towards high Zatwar-La Pass around Kalo and Naulekh Himal rocky ridges.

Adventure traverse over Zatwar-La Pass, the boundary of Dudh Koshi River and
Hinko Valley. The walk leads along the scenic valley lined with rhododendrons, pines and juniper trees, walking through smaller temporary settlements.

A lovely high altitude hike enclosed within towering snow peaks amidst pure mountain wilderness. The trek leads past wide green meadows around Thaknak and leaves the tree lines for arctic zone terrains. As you enter at the foot of
majestic Mera Peak at Khare, the base camp of Mera Peak.

Enjoy a rest day at Khare the Mera Peak Base Camp, to support acclimatization and preparation for the climb. After getting organized, starting the adventure heading to higher grounds, reaching on the foot of Mera Peak at High Camp.

An overnight on the highest point of the adventure at High Camp.
For the Big Day climb to the summit of Mera Peak with ample time to practice and preparation.  The route to Mera Peak is straight forward and less technical Mountain to negotiate. The grade is ‘F’ to “PD” it means Facial Easy with fewer technical sections. The grading comes from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification Systems, as used for day climbing.

The climb leads on snowy slopes avoiding few deep crevices, sometimes the climbers require fixed or main ropes. Depending upon the nature of the climbing routes to the summit, following the expert guide. Then finally, it reaches you on top of Mera Peak summit. Relax and enjoy the spectacular vista of the surrounding Khumbu giant peaks, including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Cho-Oyu.
As far as Mt. Makalu and Mt. Kanchenjunga towards the Far Eastern horizon.

Enjoying glorious moments achieving the goal of the adventure, return journey on the same scenic route to Lukla. An exciting short flight brings you to the hustle and bustle of city life at Kathmandu. Our great Himalayan journey concludes in Kathmandu. Itinerary

Day 1:: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to a hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal Intenational Airport, after visa formalities, and claiming the baggage. Outside the exit terminal our staff and guide receives you for a short transfer to the hotel. After getting refreshed at the hotel, then join with other members of Mera Peak trek and climbing adventures for briefing.

Briefing is done by our guide, group leader with full information of the treks, including hotels in Kathmandu. Local cultures with do’s and don’ts.
In the evening a lovely dinner and introduction to Nepali foods and culture.

Day 2:: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Moning after breakfast, our city guide takes you on a tour around thenworld heritage sites within Kathmandu city. After an exciting and interesting tour back to the hotel, preparation and packing for trek and climb.

Non-essential clothing and items not required for treks and climb.
It can be stored in the Hotel or with Kirat Society Adventure.

Day 3:: Fly to Lukla 2, 846 m and trek to Chutanga 3,536 m. 4 hrs.

Starting early in the moning for a super scenic flight to Lukla, a short drive to Kathmandu domestic airport. After going through security, board on a small spacious aircraft for a 30 minutes exciting flight.
During the flight, enjoy a spectacular panorama of the Himalayan range of peaks with views of Mt. Everest. Slowly the plane lands at Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport. After collecting the baggage and having time for a short refreshment.
Start the trek following our expert guide heading above Lukla town, heading towards an isolated region of easten Khumbu.

Walking through lovely woods of tall rhododendrons, pine and fir trees, reaching a few yak herder temporary shelters. After a few hours of good trekking, reach Chutanga, a small settlement with several simple lodges for ovenight stops.

Day 4:: Trek to Thuli Kharka 4,200 m via Zatwar La (4,610 m)-7/8 hrs.-Overnight in a lodge.

The walk begins with a steep climb to cross over the high rocky ridges of Kalo and Naulekh Himal. The high ridges of Naulekh, Zatwar-la, and Zatwar-Og passes separate the Hinku and Dudh Koshi Valleys. Enjoy the grand views of towering snow-capped peaks and climb over Zatwar-La Pass at 4,300 m high. After the traverse, a steep descent to enter Hinku Valley for ovenight stops at Thuli-Kharka. Thuli Kharka is a summer grazing area for the local villagers’ cattle and yaks. From here within the hidden valley of Hinku, a tranquil surrounding with few simple lodges for ovenight stops.

Day 5:: Trek to Kothey (3,580 m) 05 hrs. In a lodge.

After a good rest and an ovenight stay at Thuli Kharka, a moning walk takes you through the grazing land. The route follows amid a lovely, cool forest, and the hike today covers a moderate distance. Enjoy the scenic walk to Kothey for an ovenight stop in the comfort of a nice, simple, cozy lodge.

Day 6:: Trek to Thagnak (4358 m) 04-05. Overnight in a lodge.

The moning walk leads to Thagnak en route to Mera Peak base camp at Khare.
A pleasant walk with grand views of Peak 43 and Kusum Khanguru Himal,ninclude stunning views of Mera Peak.
The walk continues through a dense rhododendron and pine forest to Mosum Kharka. From here, walk across a wide and open valley at Gondaishung near Thagnak area. Gondaishung is an interesting spot with an old Gompa (a small monastery or shrine) of more than 200 years. Continue another hour hikesnto Thagnak for possible lunch and ovenight in a nice lodge or tea house.
At Thagnak, enjoy a short hike to a viewpoint for views of the surrounding landscapes. The rest of the aftenoon is at leisure for the next day's trek to Mera Peak base camp at Khare.

Day 7:: At Thagnak rest day for acclimatization before the climb.

At Thagnak for rest and acclimatization where you can enjoy a short hike.
Around view-point tops, for best scenery of the surrounding Hinku valley with views of Mera Peak and other giant peaks.

Day 8:: Trek to Khare (5,000 m) 4/5 hrs. Overnight at the Tea House.

After a pleasant ovenight stay at Thagnak, a moning walk leads towards our ultimate destination at Mera Peak base camp. The route follows a moderate path for an hour, with views of snow-clad peaks. As the walk progresses, heading beyond the tree lines, reaching close to a dam of Charpatti Tal. A four-sided or square-shaped glacial lake, from here the climb starts over cains and rocky moraine. The walk continues and then reaches a wide pasture field at Dig Kharka.
From here, the route leads across a big boulder strewn with high ridges to reach Khare for two ovenights. Khare is the base camp for the Mera Peak climb, located amidst a dramatic landscape of rocky terrains. Khare is surrounded by thenhigh cliffs and snow-clad peaks, and close beneath the majestic Mera Peak.

Day 9:: At Khare, Mera Peak Base Camp with a Rest Day for acclimatization.

Enjoy a rest day at Khare, Mera Peak base camp, our guide will providenclimbing practice and exercise. Training you with rock and ice wall climbing,nand provides related information for the climb to the Mera Peak summit.
The rest of the day, relax and prepare for the big day of the summit bid to Mera Peak.

Day 10:: Trek to High Camp (5,800 m) 5/6 hrs. Overnight in a Tented Camp.
Moning, leaving the base camp at Khare, climb towards the high or the advanced camp. Spending an ovenight at High Camp provides the best acclimatization for the climb to Mera Peak. From High Camp, the climb is much accessible and shorter, after hours of tough treks and climbs over rocky moraine and ice. When it reaches the High Camp, the tents are fixed on the best available level ground.nn nnAftenoon at leisure, and rest to preserve energy for the next early, long climb to Mera Peak summit. At High Camp, our guides will scout the route of the climb, although it is a less technical peak to climb. All climbers should be well equippednas per the instructions and advice of the guide.nn
Day 11:: Summit day to Mera Peak and back to Khare Base Camp, 7-8 hrs.

Today, the main highlight of the adventure is climbing to the summit.
Start as early as possible before dawn, follow the lead guide, and climb over snowy slopes. Avoiding a few deep crevices, the climb continues, with few stops. After hours of strenuous climbs, reach the top of the Mera Peak summit.
Have a good rest to catch your breath and allow your mind and body to relax.nn nnFrom the top, enjoy the scenery with a wide panorama of the Easten Himalaya range, including Mt. Everest. Includes views of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, andnMt. Cho-Oyu. As far as Baruntse and Makalu Himal, with Mt. Kanchenjunga.
After a blissful and exciting moment, descend safely back on the same route to base camp at Khare.

Day 12:: Reserved Day in case of Bad and unfavorable weather.

We have reserved a spare or contingency day in case of unfavorable weather conditions. If all goes well according to our standard itinerary, your guidenwill use this extra day en route to Lukla.
Making the trek to Lukla with short and flexible days to enjoy the scenic and adventurous walks.

Day 13:: Trek to Kothey (3580 m) 7/8 hrs. Overnight in the Tea House.

After a big climb with an adventure of a lifetime, the walk leads to an easy day from Khare. The retun jouney starts with a few short, steep ups and downs, and thennback into green vegetation and tree lines. The route leads to Thagnak for possible lunch stops, and continues to Kothey for an ovenight halt.

Day 14:: Trek Thuli Kharka (4200 m) 6/7hrs. Overnight in the Tea House.

The moning walk continues through the forest path with short climbs over angrassy meadows. The day then ends at Thuli-Kharka for the last ovenight around the hidden coners of Khumbu at Hinku Valley.

Day 15:: Trek to Chutanga overnight in a lodge. 05 hrs.
Leaving Thuli Kharka at the end of Hinku Valley, enjoy the last climb of the adventure. A sheer climb over Zatwar-La Pass at Naulekh Himal ridge. Then a steep and steady descent brings you to Chutanga for an ovenight halt, before Lukla.
Day 16:: Trek to Lukla (2,840 m) 3-4 hrs. Overnight in a nice lodge.

From Chutanga, a few hours' walk to Lukla for the last ovenight stop around the Khumbu and Everest regions. Enjoy the best comfort of a nice lodge with a great variety of food to enjoy lunch and dinner.

Day 17:: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu with afternoon free at leisure.

Early breakfast and then a short walk to Tenzing & Hillary airport, as the plane arrives. Get on board for a scenic flight of half hour to land at Kathmandu airport, and then transfer to your hotels. Rest of the day at leisure for individual activities after a great wonderful adventure on Mera Peak Climbing.

Day 18:: Free day as contingency and for individual activities.

We have reserved a day free as contingency in case of flight day on both ends to and from Kathmandu and Lukla. As Himalayan weather, even in the best seasons of the year, can be unpredictable with bad unfavorable. The flights cannot operate, if all goes well according to our itinerary days. Enjoy the free day for shopping or join in for a tour to Patan or Bhaktapur cities, worth a visit.

Day 19:: International Departure for Homeward Bound.
Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, a country of the high Himalaya Mountains and varied colorful cultures. As the time for your flight departure from the hotel for your intenational flight, homeward bound. After an enjoyable adventure in Nepal and Mera Peak Climbing.

For Mera Peak, climbers do not need basic mountaineering know-how.

But it will be an advantage to have some mountaineering knowledge.

All climbers should be physically fit and in good health; the rest of the day,
Our guide will train you. On the rest day, the guide will provide a short climbing exercise and the use of climbing equipment.

 

Before planning and booking Mera Peak, engage in regular physical exercise. Jogging, walking up and down hills, or swimming to stay fit and able for Mera Peak Climbing. As well as collecting much information regarding the treks and climb to Mera Peak. Purchasing the best gear for treks and climbs, as per the season wise and checking with your doctor.

Essential Information

One can enjoy Mera Peak trek and climb nearly all seasons, except for the wet monsoon season. From mid-June to August, as the flights to and from Lukla seldom fly. Due to heavy monsoon rain clouds where visibility is poor for aircraft to fly and land.

 

The best favored seasons are spring and autumn/fall. The spring begins from March to May, most days are longer with sunlight hours.

Normally the morning till mid-afternoon days are clear for views and scenic walks can get overcast late afternoon sometime.

 

Can expect snowfalls, cold mornings and in the nighttime, the mid-hills are covered with tall rhododendron, pine and juniper trees. A lively time with wildflowers are in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons of various colors.

The next high season is autumn/fall, starts from September and ends in November. Most days are fine with crystal clear blue sky, a pleasant time for scenic walks. Days are shorter due to limited sunlight hours, cold afternoons, and nights till morning time. Expect snowfall sometimes, but with a bright starry night sky. Trekkers can also enjoy trekking to Everest base camp during the winter times of December to February. Most days are clear and sunny, but shorter days due to limited sunlight hours. Cold freezing temperatures in the morning, evening, and night time, chances of snowfall.
