Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp via Cho-La Pass Trek, takes you around the most picturesque locations of high Khumbu. An exciting adventure to experience from the immense Sherpa cultures of Tibetan Buddhism to scenic views of the world’s tallest peaks.
The first part of the adventure from Lukla takes to the most stunning scenic valley at Gokyo. Bounded by soaring snow-capped peaks with emerald and turquoise colored glacial lakes with Ngozumpa the longest glacier around the Himalayas.
The walk follows the mainstream to the famous Namche Bazaar, the major hub of Khumbu Sherpa. Where once a week a Saturday market is held, hence the name as Namche Bazaar. After an enjoyable rest at Namche with perfect height for acclimatization, the adventure continues leaving the main route.
Heading towards the hidden trail to Gokyo, the valley of lakes. Following the raging Dudh Koshi River upstream to its glacial source at beautiful Gokyo Valley. At Gokyo with a leisurely day to explore its scenic viewpoint ridge of Gokyo-RI. Overlooking grand views of the worlds’ 4 highest peaks, from Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu to Mt. Cho-Oyu.
After an enjoyable and exciting time and experience around Gokyo Valley.
The next phase of the adventure leads towards the famous Mt. Everest Base Camp, crossing over high Cho-La Pass. An adventurous climb up to Cho-La, enclosed within soaring snow peaks of Cholatse, Lhotse, Taboche and Nirekha.
Slowly the trek joins the main trail towards a small settlement at Lobuche en route Everest Base Camp. From Lobuche towards our final destination heading across rocky moraine above the dramatic Khumbu Glacier.

Mt. Pumori and rocky ridge of Kalapathar. From Gorakshep trek to Everest Base Camp, surrounded by Nuptse, Lhotse, Lingtrin peaks, standing close within Khumbu Ice Fall. After an exciting time at base camp, our next venture takes you on top of Kalapathar rocky ridge. The highest spot of the adventure encircled by an array of giant peaks with close views of majestic Mt. Everest.
Completing all the highlights that Khumbu area has to offer, return journey on the main route to Lukla. The trail follows the windy scenic Pheriche Valley to the picturesque Tengboche Monastery and back into greenery of lovely forest.
Slowly the walk heads down to Dudh Koshi River Valley from Namche Bazaar onwards to Lukla. For the last overnight halt around Khumbu region of Everest, next morning a short flight brings you to Kathmandu. After an enjoyable and most memorable experience on Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp via Cho-La Pass.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to a hotel.
On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal Intenational Airport, after visa formalities, and claiming the baggage. Outside the exit terminal our staff and guide receives you for a short transfer to the hotel. After getting refreshed at the hotel, then join with other members of Gokyo Valley to Everest base camp trek for a briefing.
Briefing is done by our guide, group leader with full information of the treks, including hotels in Kathmandu. Local cultures with do’s and don’ts.
In the evening a lovely dinner and introduction to Nepali foods and culture.
Day 2: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.
Moning after breakfast, our city guide takes you on a tour around thenworld heritage sites within Kathmandu city. After an exciting and interesting tour back to the hotel, preparation and packing for trekking.
Non-essential clothing and items not required for treks, can be stored in the Hotel or with Kirat Society Adventure.
Day 3: Fly to Lukla 2, 846 m and trek to Phakding 2,645 m - 04 hrs.
Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m / 11, 350 feet - 06 hrs.
Day 5: At Namche for acclimatization and a short scenic hike.
Day 6: Trek to Dole 4,110 m-06 hrs.
From Namche Bazaar, moning a short climb then on the main winding trail facing glorious views of Mt. Everest. After an hour of good walking reaching a junction where the trail to Everest base camp, Gokyo and Khumjung branches off.
Our route diverts heading high to a scenic hill at Mong, a small place with few lodges and shops. Enjoy a magnificent panorama of snow-capped peaks and then downhill to a river gorge of Dudh Koshi at Phortse Tenga.
Stopping at Phortse Tenga for lunch, a small settlement with a few simple lodges and restaurants, amidst beautiful dense trees. Aftenoon a slow climb into a gorge covered in rhododendron, pine and fir trees. As climb leads higher reaching an open area at Dole, a nice settlement with several good lodges for ovenight stop.
Day 7: Trek to Machermo 4,470 m-04 hrs.
After a pleasant ovenight stay in a nice lodge at Dole, moning a short steep climb leading to an open area. Where tree lines get sparse for short rhododendron and juniper bushes, following the high ridge towards Luza.
A nice small place with few lodges, as the walk leads higher on a gradual path reaching above Machermo.
Facing grand views of Mt. Cho-Oyu towards north with Machermo peak in the west. From the top a slow descent to enter a river gorge lined with willow and poplar or populous trees. A short steep up to a nice plateau where Machermo settlement is located, arriving for lunch and ovenight stop.
A lovely place to enjoy the aftenoon relaxing and marveling at the surrounding views of high peaks.
Day 8: Trek to Gokyo Valley 3rd Lakes 4, 800 m -04 hrs.
Day 9: At Gokyo for acclimatization and hike to Gokyo-Ri.
Day 10: Trek to Dragnak/Thagnak 4,750 m - 04 hrs.
Enjoying a leisurely moning facing views of surrounding giant peaks at Gokyo.
A short walk from Gokyo to a small place at Dragnak, often pronounced as Thagnak also. It is located beneath the Chugyuma or Cho-la (Tsho) pass,nand at the foot of Ngozumpa glacier.
Day 11: Cross Tsho-la 5,420 m and descend to Dzongla 4,830m - 07 hrs.
An early moning start after breakfast, the climb begins towards a steep rocky uphill path. The trek leads over boulders of rocky moraine towards Cho-La Pass often spelled as Tsho or called Chugyuma.
After a strenuous steep climb of near four hours to the top of a pass.
Enjoy a refreshing rest with close views of Cholatse and Nirekha peaks.
The pass is adoned with rock cains and Buddhist colorful prayer flags then descends to a small hidden valley at Dzongla for ovenight stop.
In snow conditions this route can be quite challenging and difficult.
The guide will make the decision whether it is possible to proceed or retrace to another safe area. From the top of Cho-La, a steep descent leads to the bottom of the pass. Then on a gradual path of short hours to Dzongla for an ovenight, after a long adventurous day of the trek.
Day 12: Trek to Lobuche 4,930m - 05 hrs.
After breakfast, walk follows to a higher ridge and then on a gradual path to reach above Thugla often spelled as Dugla, where massive Khumbu melts into a raging icy river. From above Thugla high ridge, the walk leads to a lateral moraine and stone memorials to Lobuche for an ovenight. A high place with several good lodges, facing views of Lobuche Peaks, Khumbutse, Lingtrin, Pumori within Mahalangur Himal range.
Day 13: Trek to Everest Base Camp 5,364 m and back to Gorakshep - 07 hrs.
An early breakfast for a long day walk to Everest base camp. Starts with a nice pleasant moning walk, and towards high above Khumbu glacier.
The walk follows over rocky moraine and then descends to Gorakshep, a small settlement with 3-4 nice lodges. Located beneath the rocky black hill of Kalapathar and towering Mt. Pumori.
After a refreshing stop, continue walking heading east to Everest base camp, the trail follows on rocks and sandy paths. The route leads to short ups and downs to Everest base camp. Enjoy the dramatic landscapes similar to the arctic zone covered in ice, and glaciers. Stand beneath the giant peaks of Nuptse and Lhotse with close views of Khumbu Ice-Fall. The views of Mt. Everest is blocked by Lhotse, Nuptse and Lola peaks. Base Camp gets busy with mountaineers during the high season of expeditions from March to May. After an overwhelming experience head back to Gorakshep for an ovenight stop.
Day 14: Climb Kalapathar 5,643 m, trek to Pheriche 4,371 m -06 hrs.
On achieving the main target and goal, another highlight is to complete the climb to the highest hilltop of Kalapathar. Starting the climb at early moning withna slow and easy pace enjoying the surrounding scenery. After a few hours of strenuous climb reaching the highest spot of the adventure.
For all the hard efforts rewards you with a stunning panorama of snow-capped peaks. Enjoy the fantastic and closest views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse with Mt. Pumori at a near distance.
From the top ridge of Kalapathar, the rocky ridge descend to Gorakshep fonthe retun jouney. Enjoy the breakfast and walk downhill to Lobuche and towards Thukla. From here our route diverts downhill to Pheriche valley, it can be windy during aftenoon time. However, the walk is pleasant to Pheriche, a lovely settlement with a number of great lodges for an ovenight stop.
Day 15: Trek to Tengboche Monastery - 05 hrs.
From Pheriche the walk gets better as you lose altitude, heading down to Pangboche village. After Pangboche an easy descent to a bridge with the last few hours climb to Tengboche for an ovenight halt. Enjoy the climb amidst beautiful forest surrounding on reaching the top, transfer into a nice lodge.
Day 16: Trek to Monjo 2,880 m- 06 hrs.
Start the moning with a long downhill and enjoy the moning glorious views of snow-capped peaks with Mt. Everest. Reaching at Imjatse River, a slow climb to Shanasha and Kyanjima, a small settlement with grand views of Everest and Ama Dablam. The walk leads on a winding trail to Namche Bazaar for a possible lunch stop. After Namche Bazaar descends to a river bank and towards Jorsalle and a short steep up to national park exit gate. From here a short walk from the park to lovely Monjo village in the comfort of a nice cozy lodge.
Day 17: Trek to Lukla and transfer to a lodge-05 hrs.
Enjoy the last day of the jouney to Lukla, following a pleasant trail from one nice village to another. Crossing bridges a few times towards Phakding, and then to Ghat village. After a few hours of good walk, an uphill walk for an hour more to the entrance gate of Lukla. On reaching Lukla town transfer to a nice hotel or lodge for the last ovenight around Khumbu and Everest region.
Day 18: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu with afternoon free at leisure.
Early breakfast and then a short walk to Tenzing & Hillary airport, as the plane arrives. Get on board for a scenic flight of half hour to land at Kathmandu airport, and then transfer to your hotels. Rest of the day at leisure for individual activities after a great wonderful adventure on Everest base camp trek.
Day 19: Free day as contingency and for individual activities.
We have reserved a day free as contingency in case of flight day on both ends to and from Kathmandu and Lukla. As Himalayan weather, even in the best seasons of the year, can be unpredictable with bad unfavorable. The flights cannot operate, if all goes well according to our itinerary days. Enjoy the free day for shopping or join in for a tour to Patan or Bhaktapur cities, worth a visit.
Day 20: International departure for homeward bound.
Final day in Kathmandu and Nepal, as time for your intenational flight for homeward bound or next port of call. Transfer to Kathmandu, Nepal intenational airport bidding farewell to the guide and staff. After a marvelous and enjoyable adventure on Gokyo Valley to Everest base camp via Cho-La Pass Trek.
Essential Information
The Best Seasons for Gokyo Valley to Everest Camp Trek:
One can enjoy the adventure in nearly all seasons, except for the wet monsoon season from mid-June to August.
The best seasons are spring and autumn/fall. The spring begins from March to May, most days are longer with sunlight hours.
Normally the morning till mid-afternoon days are clear for views and scenic walks can get overcast late afternoon sometime.
Can expect snowfalls, cold mornings and in the nighttime, the mid-hills are covered with tall rhododendron, pine and juniper trees. A lively time with wildflowers are in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons of various colors.
The next high season is autumn/fall, starts from September and ends in November. Most days are fine with crystal clear blue sky, a pleasant time for scenic walks. Days are shorter due to limited sunlight hours, cold afternoons, and nights till morning time. Expect snowfall sometimes, but with a bright starry night sky.
Trekkers can also enjoy this exciting adventure during the winter times of December to February. Most days are clear and sunny, but shorter days due to limited sunlight hours. Cold freezing temperatures in the morning, evening, and night time, chances of snowfall sometimes.
Important notes:
Please be informed that the flight to Lukla or back to Kathmandu, might get diverted to Manthali Airport in the Ramechap district. Which is about a 4-5 hours’ drive, in case of flight diversion to Ramechap.
We might have to transfer the clients on Day 02, after the sightseeing tour in the afternoon time. For an exciting and scenic drive to Manthali town airport and stay in the best available hotels. The next morning to catch a flight to Lukla takes about 20 or 25 minutes to Lukla and vice-versa. The diversion is due to heavy air traffic at Kathmandu airport that coincides with other domestic and international flights.
If the flight to Lukla is diverted to Ramechap from Kathmandu, as per the notice of Nepal Civil Aviation. The company will inform all our clients well in advance regarding the changes. Sometimes, due to bad unfavorable weather conditions either from Kathmandu, Ramechap, or Lukla. The flight can get delayed or lead to cancellation, in this situation please bear with us and understand.
For the sudden inconvenience, in this situation, our guide and the head office will try our best for a good solution. Whether to charter a Helicopter or wait for a few days till the weather clears for a normal flight from both ends.
Trekkers who wish to fly from Gorakshep to Lukla or back to Kathmandu on a helicopter can inform us. That is after visiting the Everest base camp and climb of Kalapathar, this will make the trek shorter by 3-4 days. In the comfort of a chopper flight to Kathmandu.
