ADVENTURE AROUND GANESH HIMAL & BASE CAMP TREKS

Adventure around Ganesh Himal and Base Camp Trek, with the guidance of
Dhan Kumar Rai. An expert and veteran guide of the Nepalese company Kirat Society Adventure and Hiking.

Adventure around Ganesh Himal and Base Camp is more of an exploration rather than other normal trekking. An exclusive high altitude journey that leads you from low warm farm areas towards complete mountain wilderness.

Ganesh Himal is a massive bulk of a mountain, it is close to Langtang Himal in the east. Manaslu Himalayan range towards west, the views extends as far as Annapurna Himalayas in the western horizon.

Ganesh Himal rises above the rolling green hills at 7,422m/24,350 feet high.
This hidden highland was first explored by early pioneer H. W. Tillman in 1953.

Ganesh Himal is also clearly seen from Kathmandu Valley towards North-West on a clear fine day. Ganesh Himal a massif ranges with Ganesh-I, Ganesh-II, Ganesh-III, and Ganesh IV with Pabil and Paldor peaks.

Ganesh Himal’s first ascent was in 1955 by a French-Swiss Expedition led by Raymond Lambert from the Southeast Face. The original Ganesh Himal base camp is our main destination in the midst of the towering mountains range.

The adventure begins from Kathmandu heading high towards Rasuwa district and between Langtang and Ganesh Himal. Reaching at Syabrubesi located on the midways of popular Langtang Valley, and Tamang Heritage Trail.
As well as towards Nepal and Tibet, China borders, it also falls en route Ganesh Himal and beyond to Ruby Valley.

The journey then leads through remote villages of Gatlang and Somdang, and continues towards a tranquil mountainous zone. A lovely scenic walks crossing
over Khurpu Danda Pass, overlooking spectacular views of snow-capped peaks.

The walk progresses through serene cool forest lined with dense oaks, rhododendrons and pine trees. Leaving the dense tree lines behind, heading for the climb over rocky moraine and ice. Then reaching at Ganesh Himal Base Camp,
on the highest spot of the adventure, surrounded by soaring giant mountains.

Enjoy the delightful moments of the adventure, with breathtaking scenery of picturesque landscapes of green hills and valleys. Includes awesome views of the towering snow-capped peaks that encircle the base camp.

Slowly our trek comes to an end, walking downhill and coming across lovely farm villages. Then reaching the lower warmer areas and town of Trisuli Bazaar, concluding our wonderful trek with a drive to Kathmandu.

On reaching the heart of hustle, bustle Kathmandu city, after a glorious experience and adventure around Ganesh Himal and base camp.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to a hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal Intenational Airport, after visa formalities, and claiming the baggage. Outside the exit terminal our staff and guide receives you for a short transfer to the hotel. After getting refreshed at the hotel, then join with other members of Ganesh Himal Trek for a briefing.

Briefing is done by our guide, group leader with full information of the treks, including hotels in Kathmandu. Local cultures with do’s and don’ts.
In the evening a lovely dinner and introduction to Nepali foods and culture.

Day 2: Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Moning after breakfast, our city guide takes you on a tour around thenworld heritage sites within Kathmandu city. After an exciting and interesting tour back to the hotel, preparation and packing for trekking.

Non-essential clothing and items not required for treks, can be stored in the Hotel or with Kirat Society Adventure.

Day 3: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460 m - 06 hrs.

The drive to Syabrubesi, begins early moning after breakfast for a long jouney of about six hours or more. Depending upon the road condition, as well there are two routes to Trisuli Bazaar en-route to Dhunche town and Syabrubesi.
Taking the shortest way, the drive leads beyond Kathmandu valley towards a small town of Galchi. From here across the bridge, and then on a good road following the Trisuli upstream to warmer areas of Trisuli Bazaar.
The main town of Nuwakott district, the jouney continues along the winding uphill to enter Rasuwa district and Langtang range. The air gets cooler as the drive leads to Dhunche. The headquarters town of Rasuwa and Langtang region, it is also the entrance to Langtang National Park. From Dhunche on the winding zig-zag downhill to Syabrubesi, once a small farm village. At present it has tuned into a small town. Check in for the ovenight in the comfort of a nice lodge or guest house.

Day 4: Trek to Gatlang 2,438 m -05 hrs.

A lovely walk to reach Gatlang village, moning from Syabrubesi follows a gradual uphill. Avoiding the motorable road to Chilime Khola/stream, and then over a bridge, the walk leads to Goljang Sango village. From here the valley widens to reach Thangjet, at the confluence of Chilime and Brindong Khola/ streams. A pleasant trail leads across farm areas of rice, millet and con, as climb starts towards a steep terraced hillside. Then reaching Gatling, a large Tamang village with stone built houses huddled together. At Gatlang either in tented camping just before or after the village or staying in the comfort of Home-Stay cottage. The lodge as Home-Stay managed by the village community, at Gatlang have time to explore around the village, to observe Buddhism culture and heritage of farm life.

Day 5: Trek to Yuri Kharka 3,390m-04 hrs

Moning from Gatlang, enjoy the views of snow-capped peaks, having good breakfast, the route leads west towards Ganesh Himal. Todays’ walk with much climb all the way to Yuri Kharka, following the trail through forest. Covered in tall trees of oak, magnolia, pine and fir, juniper, rhododendrons and reaching a nice grassy meadow. Yuri Kharka is located around a grazing area of local cattle herders, setting our first camp on a clearing. A lovely camping site amidst forest surroundings with views of snow peaks towards north-west distance.

Day 6: Trek to Somdang 3,270 m via Khurpu Danda Pass 3, 620 m -05 hrs

After a pleasant ovenight stop at Yuri Kharka, moning walk starts with a climb heading through dense forest. As climb continues to the top of Khurpu Danda at 3,739 m high, it offers a grand vista of Ganesh Himal. As far as Manaslu and Annapuna Himalaya towards west, with Langtang Himal in the east.
From here the walk follows downhill along the crest, then traverses over a steep hillside. Then reaching a newly built road, the walk follows the main dirt road for a while that extends Sermathang. A place with an army post, the walk continues with climb to a valley reaching a high ridge. After a good, exciting walk of the day, I reached the ovenight camp near Somdang farm village.

Day 7: Trek to Ganesh Himal East Base Camp 4,500m-06 hrs

Moning after breakfast, having time to explore Somdang, a farm village, populated by the Tamang tribe. As climb starts through forest to reach Paigutang Kharka, a temporary settlement of local cattle herders.

The walk continues steeply up towards Jasta Khani (Zinc and Manganese mining area). The mining at present has been closed since the last few decades, when the Nepalese Army constructed the road in the early 1990’s.

From here after a possible lunch stop, the walk leads to our main highlight towards Ganesh Himal Base Camp. Aftenoon walk leads to steep climb above the tree lines, as uphill continues higher from the river gorge.

The route leads to rocky sections and then traverses towards north-east, reaching a small valley bounded by moraines. Just beneath the glaciers of Paldor Peak, where Ganesh Himal Base is situated. Our ovenight camp is pitched on the best available flat ground for two days. The camp lies beneath the confluence of Paldor West and Paldor East glaciers just north of a fine rock pinnacle. The earlier climbers named Cleare and 'Neddy's Thumb', at an altitude of 4,500 meters.

Day 8: Rest day for exploration around scenic Ganesh Himal Base Camp

Enjoy a leisure day at a charming spot at Ganesh Himal Base Camp, explore the unexplored surroundings, in the least ventured areas. Only few groups of trekkers and climbers often dares venturing this remote and well-hidden Ganesh Himal Base Camp. Situated, close to Paldor a trekking peak, facing incredible panorama of Manaslu, Annapuna Himalaya. Includes views of Machhapuchare Himaln“Fish Tail” in the west horizon, with all Ganesh Himal groups of peaks.
The view extends towards Langtang and Jugal Himal in the east, with some mountains across the border of Tibet.

Day 9: Trek to Pansang Bhanjyang Phedi 3,822m-06 hrs.

Moning from Ganesh Himal base camp, the walk follows on an altenative route to Trisuli Bazaar, the end of trekking. From the base camp retrace the high route towards Jasta Khani near the army camp at Mailung Khola.
From here walk downhill on the west bank of a stream, as the climb starts heading into dense forest towards Tiru Danda.

After a refreshing stop, the trail leads to a nice grassy meadow with a few huts below Pansang Bhanjyang. Here our ovenight camp is set, a lovely spot for a stunning view across the valley over Khurpu Danda.

As far as Langtang Himal and beyond, enjoy the relaxing aftenoon in one of the best campsites.

Day 10: Trek to Rupchet 4,000m-06 hrs

Leaving Pansang Bhanjyang, moning walk follows towards a high ridge atn3,680 m. From here after enjoying the views of snow-capped mountain range, on downhill with some switch backs. From one side of the ridge to the other, with promising exciting views. After a dramatic descent off the end of high Tiru Danda, and down to a rocky gully. To reach Rupchet for ovenight camp, just above the tree-line with glorious scenery.

Day 11: Trek to Saline 2,500m-05 hrs

Walk today, through the lush forests with a long descent toward Salankhu Khola/stream. The trail follows back amongst human habitation and agricultural endeavors of the local farmers. The walk heads past the farm areas and through small villages to reach Saline, a small farm village. Ovenight camp on an open terrace lands close to the village.

Day 12: Trek to Deurali 1,500m-05 hrs

Our adventure slowly leads to the finishing point at Trisuli Bazaar, the moning leads to traverse across the terraced fields. A walk leads to a small steep ridge, to reach a lovely forest at Boldu-Gaon village. From this village, walk heads on zigzagging down towards a picturesque agricultural field at Deurali.
Enjoy the last ovenight in a tented camping as well the delicious food prepared by our expert camping cook.

Day 13: Trek to Trisuli Bazaar and drive back to Kathmandu-05 hrs.

From Deurali towards lower warmer country to Trisuli bazaar, end of the line of trekking. Moning begins with a descent, as the path continues leading through farm fields.

The walk continues, notice the change of vegetation increasingly tropical, with bananas, Pipal and banyan trees. As the climate changes from cooler to warmer, after a few hours of walking reaches the thriving bazaar of Trisuli Town.
After lunch board on a vehicle for a few hours of exciting drive to Kathmandu.
The road twists and tuns through the ridges zigzagging, with short ups to Luchhe Danda. Then head down on the winding road to Kathmandu, arriving in Kathmandu by late aftenoon, then check into the Hotel.

Day 14: Free day in Kathmandu for leisure activities.

Enjoy the free leisure day for individual activities or with a shopping spree for souvenirs’ of Nepal. Interested people can request for another exciting tour of Patan and Bhaktapur cities, well worth a visit and not to be missed while having time in Kathmandu.

Day 15: International departure for homeward bound

Final day in Kathmandu and Nepal, as time for your intenational flight for homeward bound or next port of call. Transfer to Kathmandu, Nepal intenational airport bidding farewell to the guide and staff, after a marvelous and enjoyable adventure around Ganesh Himal & Base Camp trek.

Essential Information

Ganesh Himal Trek for all seasons, except for the wet months of monsoon; mid-June to August. The best favored seasons are spring and autumn/fall.

The spring starts from March to May when days are longer with enough sunlight hours. Normally the morning till mid-afternoon days are clear for views and scenic walks can get overcast late afternoon sometime. Can expect snowfalls, with cold morning and nighttime, and the mid-hills covered in the forest will be bright with wildflowers; in seasonal bloom. Especially the rhododendron of various colors from tall trees to a bush, which is the national flower of Nepal.

 

The next high season is autumn/fall, from September to November, most days are fine and crystal clear. One can enjoy pleasant walks along with glorious views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. Days are much shorter due to limited sunlight hours, cold afternoons, and nights till morning time. Expect snow sometimes, but with a bright and clear starry night sky. Trekkers can also enjoy the trek during the winter times of December to February. Most days are clear and sunny, but much shorter days due to limited sunlight hours. Cold freezing temperatures in the morning, evening, and night time, chances of snowfall also.
